Upcoming exhibitions at The National Portrait Gallery
Idle hours - The National Portrait Gallery summer show, Idle hours, is an exhibition of luxurious beauty. Paintings, prints and drawings represent subjects in quiet moods and situations arranged according to the time of day they depict - reading, drawing, snoozing, bathing, sewing, gardening, sitting, looking, making love and spending tranquil time with companions. Works in the exhibition range from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present.
11 December 2009 - 21 February 2010
OBEY: Shepard Fairey Posters - Shepard Fairey is best known for his iconic poster Obama/Hope which he made in support of Barack Obama for the 2008 US Presidential election. Fairey was already known for his independent politics and his striking street posters and sticker campaigns that took his images to the street. A selection of 25 posters will be on display at the National Portrait Gallery until 17 January 2010.
doppelganger: online and on show - doppelganger is the second in a series of virtual exhibitions held by the National Portrait Gallery that explore contemporary notions of portraiture in the online environment. Based in Second Life the exhibition will feature the work of five artists interested in exploring the concepts of constructed self, identity, truth and illusion in the digital realm. Until 23 March 2010.
